| I’m an uncommon guy with a common name. I was born in Bettendorf, Iowa in 1968 and grew up in Glen Ellyn, a western suburb of Chicago. I have 4 sisters (all married) and my parents are named John and Mary Smith. I graduated in 1986 from St. John’s Military Academy, an all- boys military boarding high school outside Milwaukee. I briefly attended the University of Iowa and moved to Orlando in 1987. I have always been a persistent entrepreneur. In the 1990s, I had a small housecleaning business and from 2000 to 2004, I sold several collegiate-licensed products I had invented. In 2004 I invented Storm Stoppers® The Plywood Alternative®. Storm Stoppers® is a lightweight and easy to install Large Missile Lab Impact Tested alternative to plywood for hurricane protection. My product has been sold to about 8,000 homeowners in a dozen states, including Hawaii and the Caribbean. I have had a lot of success and fun with Storm Stoppers® and formed a lot of great relationships. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my friends, overnight getaways, watching movies and reading. I try to read a book a week.
